Fruits of the Spirit

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

  • Fruit, by definition is something that is produced. We know it more widely a something produced from a tree, plant or vine. Examples are Apple, orange, strawberry, peaches, watermelon, banana, grapes and more.

Here are a few things to consider:

  • The type of tree, plant or vine is named or know by the type of fruit it produces.

Matthew 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

  • The fruit tree or vine can not produce something other that what it is. An apple tree cannot not produce an orange.

Matthew 7:18  A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

  • Fruit contains seeds. These seeds are meant to create more of the same.

2 Corinthians 9:10 Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)

11 Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.

The Spirit Produces

The fruit of the Spirit produces certain traits or a Christian nature. This nature has fruit or produces an action that is visible.

2 Peter 1:4  Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

  • This is important as each of the fruits of the Spirit can be equated with an action or act.

Love

John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Love is shown when it is put into action.

Joy

John 15:11  These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

Peace

Philippians 4:7  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Longsuffering

1 Timothy 1:16  Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.

Gentleness

2 Timothy 2:24  And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

Goodness

Romans 15:14  And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.

Faith

Hebrews 11:1  Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Meekness

Titus 3:2  To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.

Temperance

2 Peter 1:6  And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

The largest proof of maturity is when a child does those things that they have been taught without direction.
