My Secret Place

My secret place

Last week we looked at how we must begin to know Jesus more personally.  We looked at many different emotions that Jesus felt so we can understand that we have a Saviour that we can go and talk to and believe that He’s been there.

As we seek to know Him better we have compared a relationship between a Husband and a wife, now let’s look at this personal relationship in the light of friendship.

Pr 18:24      A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

You know we often reveal things to a close friend before you’d ever tell a brother or sister.  There is a bond of trust that is built over time.

Think back.  In your life was there ever a secret place that only you and your best friend new about.  This became a place where you would share secrets and build your friendship.

At times it also became a place of refuge when things didn’t seem to go to well.

1. Where is this secret place.

            a.  For a Christian, it’s in the closet.

Mt 6:6       But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

            b. This secret place is where you get to talk to Jesus and He to you.

            c.  It may be in a real closet, the foot of your bed, in a meadow, walking down the street, in your car or wherever.

            d. By talking to Jesus in your secret place you will find that through His word He will teach, comfort, give advise, at times even chastise you when you need it.

            e. Just like a good friend will.

1Jo 5:13       These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

1Jo 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

f. Where is your secret place, ssssshhhhh ….only you and your best friend know that.

2. In your secret place…  Jesus will begin to reveal His secrets to you.

De 29:29     The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

a. There are things that this world will never figure out about God.  But in your secret place He will reveal them to you.

Ps 25:14    The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.

Pr 3:32        For the froward is abomination to the Lord: but his secret is with the righteous.

b. The more time we spend in our secret place learning about Jesus through His word, the more precious He becomes to us.  The stronger the friendship becomes.

Ps 33:4      For the word of the Lord is right; and all his works are done in truth.

Ps 56:4            In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.

Ps 119:11  Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Job 23:10     But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

11  My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined.

12  Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

3.  In your secret place… There is protection and comfort.

Ps 91:1  He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

Ps 17:8  Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,

Ps 27:5  For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.

Prov 18:10  The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth   into it, and is safe.

2Sa 22:2   And he said, The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;

3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

4 I will call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

Ps 61:1  Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.

2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

3 For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.

Ps 31:1  In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness.

2 Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me.

3 For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake lead me, and guide me.

4.  In my secret place… I learn to know that Jesus loves me.

Eph 3:19     And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Where is your secret place.

Jesus desires to build a relationship so that we can be more like Him, more Christ like, a better Christian.

You know that you can tell when someone has been with Jesus in their secret place.

It’s time we put all that we have learned to practice.

We come to Church faithfully.

We can go back and forth through a dispensational chart.

Name the covenants with both eyes tied behind our back.

Prove the Bible is perfect.

Itemize the Book of Revelation.

Sing all the great Hymns of faith from memory.

Even give out a gospel track or two.

But all this means nothing if we can’t realize that this whole Churchy thing is all to help us to get to know our Saviour.

To have a personal relationship with Him.

For His will to be seen in our lives.

I encourage you to go to your secret place,

your strong tower,

your place of refuge.

Get in the comforting shadow of the Saviour.

Get to know your friend personally.

Begin to enjoy being a CHIRSTian.

Am 3:3   Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

5.  Salvation.

How about it tonight, can you say that you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ or do you just know of Him.

The truth of the Bible says…

James 2:19  Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

Ro 6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Mt 25:41  Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Mt 13:41  The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;

42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

2Pe 3:9  The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Jo 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Ro 10:13  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Ro 5:8  But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

1Co 15:3  For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

2Co 6:2  (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

Jo 14:1  Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
