Whose mouths must be stopped

A sermon preached by Chaplain Rick Brewer on 9-11-13.

I am continually amazed at those who search the scriptures so diligently…looking for verses that will justify their sin. Everyday Christians are backed into a corner by a lost world that knows their Bible better than the Christian does, or worse yet by a Christian who seeks to use the word of God to justify their own sin. I think we have all been met with a Christian who would desire to sin and always uses the “judge not lest thou be judged” verse. So for that crowd I prepared a few verses that they might want to consider…

Acts 20:27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.

Luke 17:3 Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.

Ephesians 5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

2 Timothy 2:22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
[23] But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
[24] And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
[25] In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
[3] For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
[4] And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Titus 1:9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
[10] For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:
[11] Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake.

James 5:19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;
[20] Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

Proverbs 28:5 Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.

1 Timothy 5:20 Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.

1 Thessalonians 5:14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.
[15] See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.

Titus 3:10 A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject;
[11] Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.

Jude 3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
[4] For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Conclusion:

What Paul Harvey spoke about… Christians allowed to happen.. We have been backed down by society and the politically correct culture who would take a verse out of context and fool those “Christians” who don’t know their Bible well enough to defend themselves.

How do we deal with this world?

2 Timothy 2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

We can not be silent about what Jesus has done for us!

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Remember what Jesus has done!

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Jesus came and died for the sins this world cherishes.. not so that they could continue in them, but so that they might repent (turn away) from them. Jesus desires for us to live Holy… as best as we can… desiring to be a little better every day.. not for ourselves, but for what Christ has done for us.

Perhaps it’s time we take a stand for Christ… Learn what this Bible says and live it!
