Sin Entered the World

To get started in our study we are not focusing on the fact that God created Heaven and Earth, we’ll not focus on the fact that God created everything in its adult form in six/ 24 hour literal days, we’ll not focus on the fact that the light that was created was created before the sun and the moon, we’ll not focus on the fact that God made a man fashioned after himself, we’ll not focus on the fact that God created all the animals and gave them to Adam to name, we’ll not focus on the fact that God saw that it was not good for Adam to be alone so he made Eve… We WILL focus on the fact that SIN messed all that up.

Genesis 3:1  Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

Note when sin is introduced the FIRST thing that happens is God’s word get changed!

Let’s reflect what God had said:

Genesis 2:16  And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

One of the things that satan has attacked over the centuries is when sin is interjected mankind wants to change the word of God to suit their purposes.

Revelation 22:18  For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Genesis 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

It is true that there are some things in life that God doesn’t want you to know. There are times when satan will want you to learn some things that are true… that God in his wisdom doesn’t want you to know yet. Parents can relate that there are truths that we don’t want our children to know about: drugs, sex, alcohol or death. So satan told the truth but, his truth laid the seed of covetous and pulled a thread of sin and unraveled the foundations that God had established.  

6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

1 John 2:16  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Let’s see how this all unraveled

Lust of the flesh: “saw that the tree was good for food”

Lust of the eyes: “it was pleasant to the eyes”

Pride of life: “desired to make one wise”

Sin rarely is done alone. We always want to bring others into our sin to justify ourselves: “gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”

The Result

7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

As a Chaplain I have seen the results of sin… first hand. House to house and door to door I have held the hand of those who realized the results of their sin, for sin is no respecter of persons. Held to my chest the sobbing face streaming tears from the tragic death of a loved one, for sin is no respecter of persons. Laid on the hospital floor to comfort a mother distraught from the death of a child when she was told she rolled over in her sleep and smothered her own child, for sin is no respecter of persons. I have seen the root of sin consume a young 12 year old girl when she tasted sin at the hands of an 18 year old, chasing after sexual relationships like a drug addict having sex 6-8 times a week, for sin is no respecter of persons.

The results of sin has corrupted all that is in the world, God, desiring that people would choose not to sin… set in motion events to eventually bring the world back to Him; like it was in the garden at the cool of the day. These events are those that we see on the chart and in the scriptures.

We see the Trinity at creation

Genesis 1:26  And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Notice us and our… You can not have plural without more than one person! We see here, in the beginning, all the parts of the Trinity assembled together.

All the world were vegetarians

Genesis 1:29  And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

After the flood it changed

Genesis 9:3  Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
