Lessons Found in The Storm Part 3

Mark 4:35  And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.

We have looked over the last 2 sermons on lessons learned from the storm.
How can we avoid the storm?

Check the Forecast

Proverbs 22:3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

If we take the time to look around we may see the storm coming… and avoid it.

There are some warning signs

Matthew 14:48 And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.
If you are going contrary to the wind.. There is fixing to be a storm coming.
Remember that sometimes you will have to go through the storm to get to where you need to go. (elaborate)

So you are in the Storm, getting wet.

  • Waves are crashing around
  • It’s Dark
  • The winds are howling
  • Panic is all around
  • You can see it in the eyes of all on board
  • You are focus on one thing… surviving the storm.

But next to you a greater tragedy is going on.

Mark 4:36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.

Remember the Disciples ship was full of water… The disciples feared for their lives..
And those who were in the little ships.. Who simply wanted to follow Jesus were stuck in the storm!

Collateral Damage

Sometimes you are in the storm… but struggling in the little ship.

Jonah 1:4 But the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.
5 Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.
6 So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.

WOW the similarities!

Those Sailors were in the storm because of what Jonah did!
They did nothing wrong to deserve the storm!
But they were along for the ride….
JUST LIKE THOSE IN THE LITTLE SHIPS.
I don’t know tonight whether you are in the storm because:
You are fighting the worlds storm and obediently  trying to get to the other side.
God is trying to get your attention.
Or you are just collateral damage.. Dealing with someone else’s storm…
Peace be still.

Psalm 46:10a Be still, and know that I am God…

Maybe for just a few minutes tonight we just need to be still.. And know that He is God

Listen for God to say “Peace be still” to the storms in our lives.
